Design Story: Creating an Entry-Level Hardwood Bench
Our Fundamentals Collection includes hardwood furniture designed with the ease of flat pack, bringing you the quality of solid wood with the ease that typically comes from mass consumer products.
We particularly designed the Fundamental Hardwood Bench with a focus on essential function–the simple silhouette highlights a sturdy, foundational, and inviting bench that you can use anywhere throughout your home.
Each piece is made from thick panels that celebrate the natural grain of hardwood. Heavy roundovers combined with smoothly sanded surfaces also make the piece enjoyable to interact with, providing a solid, reliable seat or surface for your entryway, bedroom, or dining room.
It All Starts With Domestic Hardwood
Every piece of furniture in our Fundamentals Collection is fabricated from domestic hardwood species of walnut, white oak, and white ash, cultivated across U.S. forests.
Our hardwood benches all begin as raw lumber in our workshop, where we select boards based on clear grain and color consistency to turn into panels. These panels are further cut to size, flattened, sanded, and shaped to become each bench leg and the full bench top. Metal hardware enables a sturdy assembly that isn’t fussy–each bench order includes an Allen Key that makes it easy to bolt the bench legs through steel plates that fasten to the bench top.
In just a few minutes of assembly, you’ll have a solid, quality hardwood bench with an emphasis on craftsmanship.

Does the hardware used in this collection wear out?
Not at all. These connectors are designed for assembly and disassembly many times over.
Hard plastic and metal components precisely align for a repeatable fit each time. In the unlikely event they get damaged or lost, they are easy to replace.

How do I assemble the bench?
This bench ships flat to reduce shipping fees. In about five minutes, you can have the legs attached to the bench top using the provided bolts and Allen key. No flimsy plastic parts or ill-fitting dowels. We assemble every bench before it leaves the workshop to ensure a smooth fit.
Tips: Have a soft blanket or other cushioning surface on which to put everything together! An extra pair of hands makes the process faster and easier, especially to turn the bench upright and put it in the perfect place.
How much weight does the bench hold?
This bench can hold a few hundred pounds without worry. Avoid leaning or tipping the bench in unexpected ways, as the bench is designed to sit flat on its two legs for proper use.
Can this bench be used indoors and outdoors?
This is an indoor bench, covered by our standard 5-year residential warranty.
Can I order a sample?
Yes. Wood samples can be requested through this form.
Is this made in the USA?
Yes. We are a wood-focused manufacturer! We make our products from a combination of raw materials and sourced components (ex. metal hardware) directly in our manufacturing workshop, located in Watsonville, California.
For collaboration products, we always identify if we work with other independent craftspeople, manufacturing studios, and fellow product designers.
Do you ship across the USA?
Yes. We ship orders nationwide, including Hawaii (where we were founded!).
Some products ship fully assembled. Some products ship flat for assembly once received.

Yes. Standard products from our hardwood furniture collection have a 5-year Residential Warranty.

In Stock products – We offer a 21-day trial period for you to try out our products. If you are not satisfied with your product(s), you may initiate a return within 21 days of the original purchase date. Products must be received in original condition. Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer.
