Design Story: The Kamehana Desk
The Kamehana Desk is part of our Field Collection, which incorporates functional weaving and refined forms, celebrating the natural woods and textures from our original home of Maui.
The idea behind the Kamehana was to offer a smaller footprint, easy-to-assemble desk that customers could put together quickly. Plus, because much of our community includes millennials who are frequently on the move in major cities, we wanted the design to accommodate easy disassembly and safer moving.
Using white ash, walnut, and white oak, we aimed to create a piece that prioritized hardwood throughout. The frame, tabletop, and drawer are all made using traditional wood joinery techniques–a mixture of mortise and tenon, bridle joints, and dovetails. Hidden in the assembled form is high-quality knockdown hardware for the modern professional and homeowner.

In the Kamehana Desk, we offer a clean aesthetic that is well beyond your average flat pack product. For years, we have incorporated modern steel connectors across the desk’s components, bringing you a design that will maintain value and quality through each major move in your life. The sentiment we love hearing most about our desks is how enjoyably sturdy they are to work on daily.
The desk ships in one box, weighing about 95 pounds. It includes the tabletop, shelf, slim drawer, and two sides/legs. We provide a hex key with every package, which allows you to set up the table in a matter of minutes.
The high-quality steel hardware allows smooth disassembly and reassembly, whether you need to store it or move at any point in your life.

Can I order custom sizes?
Every desk is made to order, and custom sizing can be accommodated at an adjusted price. The maximum dimensions for this design are: 36"W x 60"L
Reach out before ordering if you would like to explore a desk in specific sizing.
Does the hardware wear out? Is it difficult to use?
Not at all. The steel connectors are designed for assembly and disassembly many times over and only require an Allen key, which comes with every package.
Hard plastic and metal components precisely align for a repeatable fit each time. In the unlikely event they get damaged or lost, they are easy to replace.
Can I order a sample?
Yes. We encourage samples! Wood is unique, and these pieces are intended to last a lifetime. Samples are a great way to feel our finish quality and gain confidence in your purchase. You can request wood samples through this form.

How do I keep Danish Cord clean?
1. Regular Dusting - You can use a soft cloth, a duster, or even a vacuum with a soft brush attachment. This will prevent dust and dirt from building up over time.
2. Gently Wipe Down - You can also use a soft cloth that is damp with a mild soap solution. Avoid using a harsh chemical cleaner and avoid saturating the cloth with too much liquid, as this can damage the cord.
3. Stains - If you spill a liquid on the shelf, immediately dab the area with a dry cloth to soak up as much liquid as possible. Dab, do not rub. For a stubborn stain, use a damp cloth with soap solution to give a stronger clean while avoiding saturating the cord with too much liquid. Avoid using a cloth that is too wet.
4. Storage - It is best to store wood and danish cord alike in a dry place, to avoid introducing too much humidity and to prevent mold. Essentially, avoid storing your wood and danish cord furniture in damp areas.
Is this made in the USA?
Yes. We are a wood-focused manufacturer based in Santa Cruz, California. We make our products from a combination of raw materials and sourced components (e.g. metal hardware) directly in our manufacturing workshop.
For collaboration products, we always identify if we work with other independent craftspeople, manufacturing studios, and fellow product designers.
Do you ship across the USA?
Yes. We ship orders nationwide, including Hawaii (where we were founded!).
Some products ship fully assembled. Some products, like the Kamehana Desk, ship flat for assembly once received.
