A Comfortable, Coastal Style
We originally designed this table to integrate seamlessly with homes in Hawaii, where we founded JOHI.
We have carried this design over to our work in California, where it continues to offer a relaxed, minimal feel through its mixed material design.

Why Weaving?
Weaving holds an important place in our hearts because it is a practice we find in both Hawaiian and Arab cultures.
Traditional and contemporary weaving practices exist around the world. They can both distinguish and bridge cultures.
For us, the woven features in our Field Collection represent strength, dialogue, adaptation, and patience. It represents our multicultural family.

What is the woven shelf material? Will it hold up?
We weave this shelf with laced danish cord. This natural material is both beautiful and durable, and has been used by furniture craftsmen for ages. You may recognize this material from European chair design and modern seating offerings.
This shelf is woven around three integral hardwood supports and can hold books, magazines, and chess sets.
How do I keep Danish Cord clean?
1. Regular Dusting - You can use a soft cloth, a duster, or even a vacuum with a soft brush attachment. This will prevent dust and dirt from building up over time.
2. Gently Wipe Down - You can also use a soft cloth that is damp with a mild soap solution. Avoid using a harsh chemical cleaner and avoid saturating the cloth with too much liquid, as this can damage the cord.
3. Stains - If you spill a liquid on the shelf, immediately dab the area with a dry cloth to soak up as much liquid as possible. Dab, do not rub. For a stubborn stain, use a damp cloth with soap solution to give a stronger clean while avoiding saturating the cord with too much liquid. Avoid using a cloth that is too wet.
4. Storage - It is best to store wood and danish cord alike in a dry place, to avoid introducing too much humidity and to prevent mold. Essentially, avoid storing your wood and danish cord furniture in damp areas.

Many of our photographs of the Hibal Table are currently of solid Mahogany, however we have phased out Mahogany recently to increasingly use domestic hardwoods.

Is this made in the USA?
Yes. We are a wood-focused manufacturer! We make our products from a combination of raw materials and sourced components (ex. metal hardware) directly in our manufacturing workshop, located in Watsonville, California.
For collaboration products, we always identify if we work with other independent craftspeople, manufacturing studios, and fellow product designers.
Do you ship across the USA?
Yes. We ship orders nationwide, including Hawaii (where we were founded!).
Some products ship fully assembled. Some products ship flat for assembly once received.
