Design Story: A Versatile Wood Entryway Console
Our wood entryway console is part of the Field Collection, blending traditional techniques with a contemporary aesthetic. We wanted to design a tall entry storage solution that didn’t need as much wall space as a cabinet, but could provide more storage than a bench or narrow console.
To foster ease and functionality, the Entry Console sits at bar height (42”), making it comfortable to use while standing. This sizing offers versatility for your daily needs (storing sunglasses, keys, mail, or your current reads), as well as an option for entertaining and a place to serve coffee, drinks, and snacks.
Soft-close door hinges and drawer hardware ensure a smooth experience, no matter where you place the entry console or how often you use it.
A Bespoke, Handcrafted Process
The wood entryway console and other pieces in our Field Collection feature exquisite hardwoods paired with textured woven elements, which hold an important place in our hearts. In particular, the woven feature that you see in the cabinetry and the bottom shelf pays homage to weaving traditions found in both regions of the world connected to our heritage–the islands of Hawaii and the Middle East.
We use laced Danish cord in this piece, which requires about six hours of careful weaving to accomplish the desired pattern and double-sided presentation that you see in the console door. The finished woven element breaks up the driving wood aesthetic, which is created with continuous grain boards. Using these methods, each Entry Console has a unique and bespoke feel.
Do I need to assemble the Entry Console?
Our wood Entry Console ships in two pieces. Assembly is simple and just requires reattachment of the furniture base to the upper cabinet with the provided hardware.
How should I care for the wood entryway console?
With any solid wood furniture, be sure to wipe up spills quickly. Dust consistently and wipe using wood cleaners, but avoid any harsh chemicals. View our general care advice for wood furniture for more tips.

Yes! JOHI is a Santa Cruz furniture studio that designs and manufactures our furniture with solid wood. We make our products from a combination of raw materials and sourced components (like metal hardware) directly in our manufacturing workshop.
