This solid hardwood entryway bench is in production using a sister slab to that pictured. Slight variations may be incorporated to accommodate the natural slab form.


Creating a space of playful intention, the Beau bench is JOHI's latest riff on Modern Hawaiian furniture. A Maui Monekypod slab is set inside a blackened Ash frame. The slab has natural dramatic grain and contrasting edges. The frame, which at first reads more steel than wood, carries natural grain texture through the black satin finish.

About this Slab - Maui, Hawaii:

During JOHI's time on Maui, co-founders Holly and Raja would volunteer at local nonprofit LOILOA (loiloa.org), promoting community healing through Hawaiian practices. The organization would slab Mango and Monkeypod wood from largely urban felled trees. The salvaged lumber would then be used in their Papa Kuiai classes. From time to time, branching pieces were too small, so JOHI collected a few of these to be later included in furniture. This slab is one such branch, from a tree that was felled on the road to Lahaina in 2019.

Yes. We are a wood-focused manufacturer! We make our products from a combination of raw materials and sourced components (ex. metal hardware) directly in our manufacturing workshop, located in Watsonville, California.

For collaboration products, we always identify if we work with other independent craftspeople, manufacturing studios, and fellow product designers.

Can I order a Sample?

Do you ship across the USA?

Yes. We ship orders nationwide, including Hawaii (where we were founded!).

Some products ship fully assembled. Some products ship flat for assembly once received.
