Design Story: The 3-Cubby Storage Bench
It can be difficult to source solid, durable, and well-constructed benches, let alone storage solutions that last. In particular, a solid wood storage bench used to be one of the most common requests from our customers, and we created the 3-Cubby Storage Bench to meet that need. These benches fulfill the desire for well-constructed, long-term heirloom benches that fit the contemporary styles of many homeowners today.
The design was inspired by the first built-in home library we created for interior designer Anne Poon and design-build firm Hike Space. In that project, we introduced solid wood benches as a part of a beautiful home “forever library.” Similarly, the 3-Cubby Storage Bench is our first standard collection design to provide you with open-style storage cubbies that you can use for a variety of needs–from books to blankets, toys, and decor.
Versatile Use And Solid Construction
The 3-Cubby Storage Bench is available in our standard domestic hardwoods: White Ash, White Oak, and Walnut. Similar to other pieces in our shop, we work with regional suppliers throughout Northern and Central California to procure premium lumber.
After milling long boards to the required widths, we use traditional joinery throughout the base and dividers of the piece. Everything is fully glued up and assembled before it gets shipped to you, making it ready to use anywhere throughout the home.
The simple yet sturdy design is excellent for versatility, both in your day-to-day and as your family’s needs change throughout the years. What might start as storage for toys can evolve to organize shoes and school bags, or books and decor.

How do customers typically use the 3-Cubby Storage Bench?
This storage bench can be used for a wide variety of applications in residential and boutique commercial settings. It is best served where you need an ultra-sturdy and beautiful natural wood bench that can withstand the wear of daily use. One of our favorite uses is under a favorite living room window. The second is to welcome guests into any space–your home’s entry hall, your home’s great room, or your office (it has plenty of space to stash magazines for light reading).
Can I use this storage bench indoors and outdoors?
This bench is rated for interior use only and covered by our standard 5-year residential warranty.
Is this made in the USA?
Yes. We are a wood-focused manufacturer! We make our products from a combination of raw materials and sourced components (ex. metal hardware) directly in our manufacturing workshop, located in Watsonville, California.
For collaboration products, we always identify if we work with other independent craftspeople, manufacturing studios, and fellow product designers.
