For traditional print books, magazines, and digital tablets alike, the Bent Wood Rack can slip right into living rooms of many styles. Multiple layers of thick wood veneers create sturdy, bent White Ash legs. The lower rack is formed with wrapped danish cord, and the upper wood shelf is fixed atop brass accents. The exposed brass details make for a polished aesthetic. The White Ash can be finished naturally or in a deep matte black.

JOHI prototypes are our way of exercising our creative design muscles, while offering our customers an opportunity to own the first-of-their kind designs at highly discounted pricing. As a small business, finding the time and resources to experiment and develop new products is a major challenge. Purchasing one of these PROTO pieces is a great way to support the JOHI mission and furnish your home all in one.

PROTO pieces are still eligible for our 2 year warranty. We will work with you to tailor the design choices to your preference.

Care Tips

All wood furniture pieces come with our recommended cleaning solution (concentrate). Wood furniture should never be cleaned with harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive surfaces, or too much water. Be sure to dust, wipe, and dry with a soft cloth.

What about the Danish Cord? Danish cord is a natural paper material used for generations that can easily be dusted and wiped with a dry soft cloth, similar to the wood surfaces of this piece.

Please note: Wood is a natural material that is subject to environmental changes. Heavy air conditioning and direct sunlight can be particularly tough on natural wood pieces. Wherever possible plan to offset intense, direct impact of these conditions.

All finishes are prone to natural wearing. For this reason, we do not warranty any of our products' finishes.

Interior Residential Fabrication Warranty

We provide a two (2) year structural warranty for interior, residential uses of our hardwood furniture, which begins on the date of delivery. If, within the Warranty Period, your furniture fails structurally or develops large cracks in the joinery, we (JOHI LLC) will at our own option implement repair or replacement.

Finishes are not warrantied. Natural wear and tear should be expected, as no finish is completely resistant to marks or scratches.

Note: This warranty does not include misuse, failure to upkeep, acts of god (or children), water damage, mildew, normal wear, freeze damage, pests, or if the furniture is used in a commercial setting.

our promise

We believe the process of design results in a more thoughtful world. We are committed to combining professional experience with inspired exploration to create honest, functional home & life products.

  • small batch, small footprint

We produce our work in limited batches and on a made-to-order basis. In this approach, we give greater attention to each product’s lifecycle and its impact on our earth, from the day we source materials, to their refinishing, recycling, or decomposition.

  • domestic difference

Yep! We don't just design here in California. We make our work here too. That means we employ and work with the humans and businesses of our local area and broader US to support a stronger local economy.

we've pledged 1% of all sales to support nonprofit sustainability initiatives.

We started our business in Hāli'imaile, Hawai'i and are now based in Santa Cruz county, California. Our environments from mauka to makai have always been an important part of our lives. This commitment is just one way we choose to give back.
